Blog 3 - Strengths and Weaknesses

Hi there!

Welcome to my third blog, today i will be speaking about my thoughts on current strengths and weaknesses surrounding my creative and university life.

Strengths can often be seen as a reason to celebrate, knowing you're good at something can make you complacent, cocky and not willing to progress, so i keep it in the back of my mind, and try not to show it on the outside.

Although a weakness is often considered a bad thing, i take it as a positive, because i at least know where i lack, which drives me to sit and learn more about those aspects.

Lists of my current strengths -

Very competent around most DSLR's and gimbals, very handy when it comes to setting up and using equipment.

Competent in the use of most of the Adobe suite, including Premiere pro - After Effects - Lightroom and Photoshop.

I believe myself to be a good listener, but also a good leader.

I can work well under pressure, to meet deadlines or fast paced days.

I strive to work long hard days, if a day is easy, its often boring to me. I'm very happy and eager to put in the graft to get to where i want to be.

I teach others quite well (in my opinion), for example if somebody doesn't know how to edit or set up a camera the way they want, then i'm happy to take time out of my day and my projects to teach, and teach i will until they understand.

I wont give up.

List of weaknesses -

I have gotten quite lazy in the recent months (i think due to COVID ruining motivation).

Sometimes i find it hard to find my drive to do things, or even want to do things.

I'm not at all good at theory work, or written exams.

I want to get better using After Effects, i am competent in it but always want to learn more, so i see that as a weakness.

Can sometimes struggle with timekeeping, running over on some things or being late (due to lost motivation)

Some key areas for development for myself are as above, such as becoming better at written and theory work, putting in the time to learn more and taking a more positive approach towards such things. Another key area for myself is to get better at After Effects and editing in general, I wouldn't say i'm bad, but i'm not where i want to be. As mentioned in blog one, my goal is to become an editor / camera operator, hopefully running my own company doing so. In the short term though, id like to improve my editing skills so i can join the website "Fiverrr", which is a site that people pay to have their footage edited, and earn some money while doing my Degree here at SAE.
