Hey there!
Welcome to blog #4, this will be my final blog post for a little while, while I go home for Christmas and then come back to a busy start of the next year.
In this post I will be talking about how I believe I can maximize my potential within editing while at university. Since editing is the profession that I hope to have in the coming years, I believe I can take on a lot more editing work while studying, for instance I have been helping to edit multiple peoples VNF's for our end of trimester assignment, because they weren't keen or competent to do so.
Alongside helping film their projects, I would then come home and edit my own version of the VNF, just so I had more footage to play around with, so far I have done 3 other peoples versions, but they're just for me, I would then go into uni and meet them, or get them to come to my house where i'd sit and teach them how to edit it themselves, showing them step by step the process needed and tips and tricks to help, this obviously helped them massively but also helped me progress because it gives me more time on the software, it helped me to get quicker and quicker each time. Another example of me taking on further work is that I recently went to a shoot with SAE at a school (Tudor Hall) to film their church sermon and their choir sing. I had a brilliant time doing both days with them, but knew I wanted to do more, so I asked Naomi if I can edit one of the days footage, which I will be hopefully completing this week. Doing things like this gives me more time to learn, and to practice which I love.
Like mentioned in the previous blog, i'm more than competent using software like Premiere pro, but a little unsure when it comes to software like After Effects, I know my knowledge could be expanded on the subject. My aim is to take on as much technical editing as possible while at SAE and attend all workshops that I physically can. Alongside teaching myself at home, I believe this will give me a better insight into learning the software. More time playing about is more time learning. As stated in the previous blog too, I'd like to be an editor on the website "fiverrr", but with my current skill set editing I know I cant, because i'm currently not good enough to sell edits (in my own eyes), so I am striving to become as good as I can as quick as I can, to help better myself and earn a few pennies on the side.
Other ways that I like to learn, is to sit and watch YouTube tutorials, for instance lets say there's an editing technique I do not know, I will watch a video, then create the same effect myself straight after, then watch it again and so on, until I know exactly how to do it without any assistance or guidance. I have done this since I was around 15 when I started to edit call of duty videos for YouTube, spending hours a day editing and playing around.
I hope you have enjoyed reading today's blog have got a little more insight into what i'd like to do after finishing my degree, thank you for reading, and i'll see you in the next one!
Luke
